The Washington Demon boy’s basketball team beat WACO in the Iowa Hall of Pride game on Saturday 62-41.
The game was fairly even in the first quarter ending 14-10 with Washington in the lead, but in the second quarter, it was all WACO, ending the first half with the lead 27-22.
After the half, the Demon upped their defensive intensity, which led to Washington scoring more, and giving them the 62-41 win.
Washington Demon head coach Bryce Smeins said after the game that he was happy with how his team came back in the second half.
“I thought our guys played better in the second half,” Smeins said. “We were pressing full court and trying to wear them down, they shot really well in the first half, we went man to man most of the second half, and our pressure got to them, and we shot free throws a lot better in the second half.”
Justin Hoffman led the team in points with 20, with Kyle Roder behind him with 10.
WACO was led by Aaron Barnhart with 11 points and Dylan Carlson, Klinton Garrett with eight points.
WACO head coach Bob Hilmer said he was happy with how the team played against a bigger school like Washington.
“I was very happy with the overall effort, we have a lot of new kids playing this year, and we have one starter back, and we didn’t put him in in the first quarter, so it was all new starters,” Himer said. “Some have maybe started a game or two last year.”
This game’s stats will not count on either teams record.
