The Washington Demon girl’s basketball team travels to WACO tonight for the Iowa hall of pride game.
The game is more of a scrimmage as it will not count toward stats or records, but both teams student councils had to raise money for a good cause to play it, this year they chose Hurricane Sandy relief.
WACO has had a game, losing last night to L-M 50-43, while Washington has just played a half of basketball, and tied.
Aaliyah Brown continues to be the top scorer for WACO, while head coach Phil Long says on any given night it could be any girl on the team for Washington.
“I honestly believe you follow us in night in and night out, my top three scorers will be three random kids on any given night,” Long said. “We don’t have a go to kid in the gym at this point, I think we just have a plethora of kids who can score six, eight, ten points a game. I don’t know any kid is capable of going 12, 14, 16 a night, and I don’t have that one kids that you almost count on to go 16 every night, so that will be a challenge for us all year long.”
Dema Giardino led the team at the Jamboree earlier this week.
WACO head coach Shannon Rugg said tonight’s key for WACO is the speed and physicality of the game.
“They’re going to play at a lot faster pace, and we’re going to have to adjust to the pace of the game, and hopefully we can do that,” Rugg said. “Just being physical, the higher you go in class, the more physical it gets, and we’re going to have to match the [physicality].”
