County Debt Stands at $15.3 Million

A Washington County official is shedding some light on the debt figures released by the Iowa Treasury. Information that was recently released shows the county has around $15.3 million in debt. Washington County Information Technology Director Cyndie Sinn says around 76% of that debt is made up of general obligation bonds that were used to build the county jail and improve county roads and buildings.  The other 34% is an Urban Renewal Bond that was used to construct a water plant in Riverside, which is being paid back through a TIF district that affects the Riverside Casino.
