One person was sent to the hospital, another to jail, after a late night accident. At around 10:15 last night the Washington County Safety Center received a report of a one vehicle accident with injuries north of 2990 Ivy Avenue in Washington. It was determined by those on scene that a truck, driven by 22 year old Cody James Sobaski of Brighton, was southbound on Ivy Avenue when it failed to negotiate a curve on the icy road, entered the ditch and struck a tree. Sobaski was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated and transported to Washington County Jail. One of his two passengers, 22 year old Eric Michael Harvey of Brighton, was transported to Washington County Hospital and was then transported via Air Care air ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Responding to the scene were emergency personnel from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Ambulance, the Brighton First Responders, the Brighton Fire Department, the Iowa State Patrol and the Washington County Rescue Unit. The Iowa State Patrol is handling the charges and the Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident and handling the state accident report.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
