Washington caused some late game drama in the fourth quarter, cutting a lead that was up to 12 at one point down to just four, but after three steals in a row and multiple missed layups, Washington fell to Fairfield 43-38.
The Demons were led by 12 from Justin Hoffman and 10 from Kyle Roder.
Demon head coach Bryce Smeins said when the game is on the line, you have to convert of the takeaways.
“I think they turned it over three times in a row and we got zero out of it and that is when you need to score, you work really hard on the press and your get a turnover, and then you end up not scoring in the end of it, and hurt us down the stretch,” Smeins said. “I thought defensively our press bothered them a lot in the second half, we just didn’t finish on the end of it.”
Washington falls to 0-1 in the conference.
