The Washington Demon girl’s Basketball team finished up the first half of their conference season last night beating Ft. Madison 37-16, to go 3-0 in the Southeast Conference.

Washington had a 12-0 run in the first 4:30 of the game, but then got stuck, while Ft. Madison went on a 8-0 run until 3:30 left in the second when Washington got their momentum back and scored 10 more to make the score 22-8 at half.

The second half, Washington started to push the tempo, scoring 12 more points, 15 in the half to win 37-16.

Washington’s leading scorer was Stepahnie Fishback with 11, and Grace Redlinger with seven.

Head coach Phil Long said the defense was the star of the game.

“I thought our communication was just unbelievable, the best I have ever seen it, as far as switching from ball screen to off screen and switching back when there was a miss match,” Long said. “Ft. Madison can run a lot of clock trying to get a good when they can’t get a good look, so we are limited to how many offensive touches we get, because we don’t get many, but to come out here and hold them to [16] after they score 36 on Mt. Pleasant Friday night, we’ll definitely take it.”

Washington is now 3-0 in the conference, and will play out of conference Burlington on Thursday to finish up the first half of the season.
