The City of Kalona will attempt to please both sides of an argument involving yard waste.Concerns were raised by residents at a City Council meeting in early November regarding the city’s burning ordinance.

City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says he thinks there’s merit to limiting burning to once or twice a week, but says they’re not considering a complete ban. He adds one idea is to set parameters for when burning can happen on certain days, so residents living near people burning yard waste will know when to have their windows closed.

The discussion will continue at tonight’s council meeting. He says that since there aren’t any time constraints, and they’re still awaiting a recommendation from the DNR, they’ll continue to discuss it with residents before they come to a final decision.
