A Henry County Sheriffs Deputy had a close call during last weeks post storm cleanup. At around 6pm last Friday a fully marked Henry County Sheriff’s patrol car was parked on the shoulder of Highway 34 at the intersection of Henry Jefferson Avenue with its emergency lights on. The driver, Deputy Garrett Cargill, was standing in front of the vehicle providing traffic control for a tow truck pulling a car out of the ditch. A semi was driving eastbound in the outside lane when he saw the patrol car and deputy. The semi was unable to switch lanes due to another vehicle and instead hit the brakes, causing him to loose control of the trailer on the snow covered road, which swung out and struck the patrol car. Deputy Cargill was able to run into the ditch to avoid getting hit. Henry County Sheriff Dan Wesely says they’re waiting on an estimate, but says it’s most likely totaled.
