Those outside the 100-year floodplain in Kalona will have more time to secure flood insurance. According to City Administrator, Ryan Schlabaugh, conference calls with the DNR and FEMA led to a two year extension on the preferred risk policy rates, for those that aren’t mandated to get the insurance. For those that own a mortgage backed home in the high risk area of the floodplain, you’re provider will notify you by July 16th that you need to buy the mandatory flood insurance.
