A big first quarter helped Winfield-Mt. Union to a 52-37 girls basketball win over IMS Friday night in Winfield. The Wolves used IMS turnovers, fast break baskets and an advantage on the interior to outscore IMS 22-5 in the first period. After game WMU Head Coach Mich Wachs talked about what got his team out of the gates quickly.

“I thought we defended really well, and a key to use for the last two weeks was rebounding, and I thought early on we rebounded well,” Wachs said. “As you can see we can really get out and run the floor, and I thought we were tremendously unselfish and we made some great passes in the open court and we were able to finish, and it was obviously a huge key to the game.”

With a 31-17 lead at the half Winfield-Mt. Union played through foul trouble working the ball inside to Logan Hartsock who put up a dozen in the second half and 14 for the game to lead WMU. IMS was led by 17 points from Kristin Davis. Winfield-Mt. Union is now 7-3 overall and 7-2 in the SEISC. IMS falls to 3-7 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
