A number of local churches are participating in a popular Salvation Army fundraiser. Pastor at 1st Assembly of God Church Jim Cluney says members of his church and others in Washington will be ringing those familiar bells, in front of Hy-Vee, FareWay, and Walmart, collecting donations for people in need throughout Washington County.

He adds the weekend after Thanksgiving they collected $1,800. They have a goal of collecting $15,000. Cluney shares the decision to set such an ambitious goal came after the $12,000 they collected last year was gone by the summer.

He says that they’re always looking for volunteers to donate an hour or two of their time.  To get on the schedule call Deb McCreedy at 319-461-6783 or Jim Cluney at 319-653-1735.
