Trying to win their third road game in 72 hours and fourth straight overall to open the season, the MidPrairie boys were stopped just short Friday night in Iowa City, falling to Regina 57-54. In a game
heard on KCIIradio.com, Mid-Prairie got out to an early lead in the contest behind balanced scoring.
Regina would close the gap in the second quarter with an 8-0 run and take a 30-29 lead into the break.
In the third quarter things stayed tight with the teams trading the lead back and forth. In the final period
Mid-Prairie went through a cold stretch of nearly four minutes without a field goal and Regina got
just enough offense to build a two possession lead. This Regina run was capped by a Kenyon Browing
three pointer to put Regals up six and Mid-Prairie never could completely recover. Following the game
Head Coach Chris Kern talked about this pivotal stretch.

“I think the big thing tonight was that down the stretch was we missed shots that were good shots that we finished in the other games, no excuses made, but from two tough others games this week and playing last night, it just seemed like our legs weren’t there on our shots, and we hit a four or five minute spurt there that we didn’t hit any shots and that hurt us,” Kern said.

Mid-Prairie would continue to stay on the fringe of getting back in it as Nick Stimson hit two three
point shots in the final 30 seconds, four total on the night, to try to help the Golden Hawks hang around
but Regina hit eight of ten free throws down the stretch that proved to be the difference. In the win
the Regals were led by 14 points from Drew Cook and 11 from Riley Dixon. Mid-Prairie got 14 from
Nick Stimson off the bench to lead the charge and 13 from Reid Miller. The Hawks are now 3-1 on the
season and will next be in action Tuesday night against Tipton at Mid-Prairie High School. You can
hear all of the action on KCII with pregame at 5:30PM, tipoff of the girl’s game at 6 with the boys to
follow.
