A program that hopes to get students excited about science and technology will bring local students to Ames next month for a robotics competition. Earlier this month, the Lincoln Elementary school’s Lego League team named “Senior Saluters” went to Ottumwa for a regional competition. Up against over 30 other teams, they received a first place ranking for exceptional team performance.
Each year, the competition has a special focus. This year, the attention was given to the elderly population. The students work on problem solving, teamwork, and a project to help seniors live more independently.
The competition itself involves programming a robot to accomplish certain tasks. The state competition is in January.
