When there’s winter weather overnight in Washington, making the decision on whether or not to cancel or delay school isn’t as simple as looking out the window.
Washington Schools Superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen says at around 5:15 in the morning, he’ll travel the northern portions of the district and the transportation director will travel the southern portion to see the conditions first hand before making a judgment. The decision is usually made by 6am at the latest.

He adds he also talks with road crews and neighboring school districts to see if they will be delaying or canceling school. The same is true when deciding to dismiss early.

Stay tuned to KCII for any school cancellations or delays and check kciiradio.com for updates.
