Superintendent Reviews Facility Status

The Washington Community School District Superintendent calls the district in a good position regarding school facilities. Mike Jorgensen outlines his perspective in a posting on the district’s website. In it, he says that he is pleased with Stewart Elementary School’s recent 2-million dollar update to the building that included geo-thermal heating and cooling, new doors, lights, and windows. At Lincoln Elementary, Jorgensen says the building is in good shape, although it has had fewer updates. He says that an update similar to the Stewart geo-thermal project would be nice, but finding grant funding for such updates is becoming more difficult. Jorgensen says that the updates to the current middle school building went well. Quite a lot of work went into converting it from a high school to the middle school. But he says that more work will need to be done on that building’s roof. The new high school includes the older former junior high school, and Jorgensen says the bricks will eventually need to be tuck-pointed. But he says that it is exciting to have the brand new building to be using this year. Other items Jorgensen is looking at include athletic fields and the possibility of adding an auditorium to the high school
