Today, the Washington City Council begins working on the months-long process of developing a city budget for next fiscal year, which starts in July. Their work session this evening is the first of many such meetings leading up to the deadline for certifying the budget numbers at the start of the summer.

In a recent presentation from City Accountant Joe Myers, he described the current year’s budget situation as good.  Many departments are under their projected budget at the halfway point.  However in some cases, unexpected staff absences have meant more overtime pay.

The meeting this evening is at the Washington Public Library at 6 p.m.
