The Washington County Obesity Prevention Task Force will start incorporating nutrition and gardening education into elementary curriculum’s this spring. Lynn Fisher, with Washington County Public Health and the task force, explains that starting in November of 2011 the obesity task force decided to put a special emphasis on changing attitudes in Washington County’s youth, specifically towards eating healthy.

They plan to do this by setting up gardens on school grounds that the students take care of. Fisher says now that funding is in place, they’ll be able to begin the program at Lincoln and Ainsworth Elementary this spring.

She says before that, the task force will be working with teachers and principals to work out how this additional education will be incorporated into the existing curriculum.
