The Mid-Prairie girls flipped the switch early in a key Cedar Valley Conference match up with the West Branch Bears Friday night scoring a 46-31 win in Wellman. Mid-Prairie was coming off of two slow starts, one of which cost them a win Thursday night but the Golden Hawks showed no ill effects just 24 hours later rolling to a 9-2 lead after the first quarter and a 25-14 lead at the halftime break. Following the game Coach Marc Pennington talked about his team’s fast start.

“You could tell right away we were talking and we kind of a business look on our face and we were pretty much here to play, and we didn’t get out great offensively, but better than we have been in the last couple of games and Mallory McArtor was outstanding three or four games in a row she’s been outstanding she had right rebounds and 17 points, and it was great to get Kurtz going in the first half,” Pennington said. “We had two or three going at the same time, and the rest just kind of filled around them and good things happned.”

West Branch was never able to get comfortable or make a run in the second half, Mid-Prairie never allowed the Bears within 12 in the fourth quarter in finishing off the win. The Golden Hawks were led offensively by Mallory McArtor who posted 17 points for the second straight game. Erika Murphy finished with 10 and Taylor Kurtz added 10 off the bench. With the win Mid-Prairie is now 8-3 on the season and 6-2 in the Cedar Valley Conference, they will be on the road at Fairfield Monday.
