Defenses dominated as Solon beat the #8 Mid-Prairie girls basketball team 49-46 Saturday in overtime in Wellman. Solon got to more loose balls in the first half and moved out to a 29-21 lead going into halftime. In the second half Mid-Prairie would mount a comeback and take their first lead of the afternoon midway through the fourth quarter on a Meghan Redlinger jumper. Mid-Prairie missed four key free throws down the stretch of regulation enabling Solon to hang around and force overtime. On the afternoon Mid-Prairie was just nine of 25 at the line. In the overtime period defense continued to dominate but Emma Rickels and Rylee Smith stepped to the line for the Lady Spartans and hit five of six free throws late to give Solon the win. Mid-Prairie was led by Taylor Kurtz’s career high 14 points off the bench. Mid-Prairie is now 13-5 overall and will next be in action Friday in Wilton.
