Entering Tuesday night the Mid-Prairie boys were searching for a way to come up with a win in a close game. The Golden Hawks broke through at Durant posting a hard fought 40-37 victory. The Wildcats got out of the gate quickly with a 9-2 run and led 24-17 at the break. Durant ran that lead to 11 in the third quarter before Mid-Prairie systematically turned up the defense and started knocking down shots. The Golden Hawks got within two going to the final period and hung on with some clutch shooting and a pair of Elliot Runcimon free throws that sealed it. After the game Head Coach Chris Kern talked about the team effort in the victory.
“I thought our guys adapted well, and I thought we had big time minutes off the bench as well,” Kern said, “We lost Reid Miller tonight his knee was bothering him tonight, so Nick Stimson stepped in there, you know it’s one of those things where everyone contributed one way or another tonight.”
The Hawks were led by Dayton Hall’s nine points. With the win Mid-Prairie is back to .500 at 8-8 on the year and will host North Cedar Friday in the Coaches vs Cancer game.
