Mid-Prairie Wrestlers Take Third At Conference Meet

The Mid-Prairie wrestling team took third place at the Cedar Valley Conference meet Saturday at West Branch. Entering the championship round Mid-Prairie had a pair of wrestlers entering title matches with seven others competing in consolation championship bouts. Mid-Prairie crowned Phirom Peterschmidt conference champion at 182lbs. Peterschmidt defeated Michael Madsen of West Branch 9-3 to claim the title, the win was the 100th of his career. Golden Hawk head coach Justin Garvey said not only us getting his 100th win special, but the rarity of what he did is historical.

“It’s a pretty special day, it has been a number of years, I think it has been seven since Mid-Prairie has had a individual conference champion, and pair that with the guy getting his 100th win, I think only the fourth guy in school history to get that, it’s pretty special,” Garvey said.

At 195 Nearoth Peterschmidt posted a runner-up finish falling to Cade Jones of West Branch 9-5. Mid-Prairie also got third place performances from Josh Murphy at 113, Kendall Bontrager at 138 and Miguel Sanchez at 152.
