On the northeast side of the Washington downtown square may get new handicap spots.  The Washington City Council introduced an ordinance Wednesday to make the addition to a spot near the Frontier Restaurant.

Washington Mayor Sandra Johnson says that in the process of evaluating the business district parking situation, the city noted a need for more handicap spots, and they found two spots available for that purpose. Johnson says the city’s traffic patterns are something to regularly evaluate.  The new parking will resemble the handicap parking on the middle-of-the-block spots directly on the square.  The city council has passed the first of three readings to make the parking change.
