A local group that is trying to affect a noticeable increase in healthy behavior is meeting this Friday in Washington.  The Washington County Obesity Prevention Task Force is looking ahead to their priorities for the year 2013.

One possible focus is to continue working towards creating school gardens at Lincoln Elementary and Ainsworth Elementary Schools.  That effort would also eventually involve creating a curriculum in association with the gardens with topics like nutrition.  Other school-related efforts include activities for wellness at Kalona Elementary School.

But the group is focused on a larger population than just young students, they also hope to continue to build a presence at local community events like the farmers’ market, Washington County Hospital and Clinic’s Kidzfest and Seniorfest, and their own “start somewhere” walk.

The task force meeting is Friday when they could make more formal approval of a work-plan.  They are supported through grant funding and volunteer help.  They will meet in the Washington Public Library’s State Bank room at 12:30.
