The Washington Police Department normally has ten full-time officers that rotate shifts, but they are short two officers. One is recovering from a relatively minor on-the-job injury, and the other is recovering from a surgery that is not work related.

Police Chief Greg Goodman says that the staff situation has meant that one part-time officer has been working essentially full-time, and others have been working longer shifts.

One officer could be back on shift in a matter of days, and the other could return as early as next month.  The cost of paying over-time might contribute to the police department going over-budget this year.
