The Washington County Obesity Prevention Task Force has several items of focus for this calendar year. The group is calling 2013 the ‘year of the trails.’  They plan to highlight a local trail each month.  Washington County is home to more commonly known trails like the KeWash trail, Lake Darling trails, and the new Ainsworth to Marr Park trail.  But the group also wants to draw attention to other areas like Sockum Ridge, and water trails for kayaking.  At their meeting next month, they hope to have more discussion about local trails.  They are looking for ideas about trail events to promote in conjunction with their plan.

The task force has received a variety of funding for the idea of student-led gardens at a couple elementary schools.  They hope to continue that effort this year and have students learn about nutrition through hands-on experience.
