Tom Vilsack will continue to serve as Secretary of Agriculture, which is beneficial to Iowa according to one State Representative. Jarad Klein serves District 89 and says having a Secretary of Ag that understands the problems that are faced in Iowa poses an advantage. But he adds there have been some disappointments during Vilsack’s time in that position. Klein says Vilsack could have been much more vocal in opposing the Department of Labor’s child farm labor rules, which would have limited the amount of involvement children could have in farming operations. He says Vilsack left Iowans to fend for themselves, and adds that fortunately their voices carried and the rules were overturned.
