A memorial service for Walter D. Lance age 92 of Washington and Diamondhead, Mississippi will take place at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Day Lounge of Halcyon House. Military honors will be conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29. Private family interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Walter Dillon Lance was born January 23, 1920 in Olds, Iowa the son of Gilbert Forrest and
Mayme Marie (Miller) Lance. He graduated from Olds High School, and later went on to receive his real estate license. Walter was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Ferguson in 1940 in West Chester, Iowa.

Walter was a Navy Veteran, who had been employed by Sitler’s Auto Parts. He later managed a Napa Auto Store. He owned and operated Lance Real Estate until moving to Sun City, Arizona where he practiced real estate for twenty years with Ken Meade Realty. Walter never truly retired; he turned in his MLS keys in 2000 to serve as primary caretaker for his wife, Dorothy.

Walter was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War as well as Washington American Legion Post 29. He enjoyed fishing, and he lived for the pinochle club at Halcyon House. He loved to make string art for his friends, but his greatest love was his family.

Walter is survived by daughter Karen Yordy and husband William R. “Bill”, Sr. of Diamondhead, Mississippi; two grandsons: William R. Yordy, Jr. and Brian W. Yordy, both of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; one great-grandson Richard S. Yordy of Richmond, Virginia; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy in 2007, brothers Roger Lance and Dale Lance, and sister Lucille Warner.
