Melting ice during warm periods we’ve been experiencing may mean most is unsuitable for fishing on. DNR Fisheries Biologist Chad Dolan says to exercise caution when venturing out onto the ice. He explains the warm weather and rain has damaged the ice to a point where it would be best to wait until we have a period of sustained cold weather.

Ice should be 4 inches thick to be considered safe, but Dolan adds regardless of the thickness, going out on ice is always a risk.
