The Washington Demon girl’s basketball team got a win last night over Fairfield 50-36.

In the start of the game it seemed like Fairfield had the upper hand, as Washington could not hit a shot and going into the first quarter break trailing 8-6.

Much of the same went on in the beginning of the second quarter, until Washington finally opened up and picked up the pace of the Trojans taking a tie score into the halftime break 18-18.

Washington came back out in the third fired up, with their defense working in overdrive, not allowing a field goal in the whole third quarter, and only giving up two made free throws to take the lead 33-20.

The rest of the game would be foul Washington until they had a lead that was too far out of reach to get and the Demons took home the win.

Fairfield had three girls foul out of the game.

Demon head coach Phil Long talked after the game about the great defense in the third quarter.

“We were going to let the ball be in [Bauman’s] hands and we were going to double her everywhere and not get any clean looks, and we only let her have one clean look and that was really early in the game and was a three near the scores table and I said right then we’re going to play man-to-man so we know where everyone is at,” Long said.

Kimball led the team with 17 points on the night and going 12-15 from the free throw line.

Washington plays next against Pella on Tuesday.
