With the help of a grant, Washington County Public Health has been conducting workplace assessments at businesses across the county. Jen Weidman with WCPH says the goal of the assessments is to increase productivity and decrease healthcare costs by preventing the leading causes of death and disability. She says the focus on areas like tobacco use, level of physical activity and healthy eating.
The assessments are made possible by the Community Transformation Grant they received in the fall of 2011. She adds four businesses have taken advantage so far, and two more are scheduled for this year. Those businesses were evaluated by Jen; she then scored their assessment and then submitted a summery that offered tips and recommendations. She says any business interested in this should contact Washington County Public Health.
