The number of calls made to 911 dropped for the second year in a row in 2012. According to information compiled by the Washington County Safety Center calls were down from 20% in Kalona to less than 1% in Washington. Communities that saw the largest increase in calls include Wellman, Riverside, and Brighton. Last year there were 9,369, compared with 9,731 in 2011.
