A project at Washington Municipal Airport that’s years in the making will indeed go forward.  The Washington City Council approved the moving of a runway to the north.

At Wednesday’s City Council meeting, an engineer explained that core samples taken at the airport show deterioration of the runway. Most of the cost of the project will be covered by the Federal Aviation Administration.   Airport Commission Chair Mike Roe says that if the runway is not redone in compliance with F-A-A standards, then federal money would not be available for the project.  The council voted unanimously in favor of moving ahead with the project.  The project is expected to start this year.
