The Washington demon girl’s basketball team plays for a chance to go to state tonight against Cedar Rapids Xavier.

The game will be more of a home court advantage for Cedar Rapids Xavier than a neutral site, as it will be played at Cedar Rapids Kennedy, 2.5 miles away from each other according to google maps, in fact they’re on the same street.

Washington may be happy about that as their highest scoring games on average have been on the road.

The Demons come into tonight game shooting 32 percent from the field and scoring 45.5 points per game.

Lauren Kimball is the top scorer with 185 points and Stephanie Fishback is behind her with 163 points.

Cedar Rapids Xavier is coming off a win against Solon in which they held them scoreless in the fourth quarter. Washington did lose to Solon earlier in the year 55-49.

Xavier is shooting 41 percent from the field and scoring 52 points per game.

Their leading scorer is Ashley Stulken with 212 points on the year. Behind her, five more players with 127 points or more.

Demon head coach Phil Long said tonight is about going back to what the Demons do best.

“Attacking the glass, if you look at the quick stats even though we are one game short, we have a 21 game schedule and everyone else has 22 we actually lead the state in attempts [from the free throw line], per game, if you factor in that we are one game short, so we have to get to the glass somehow, get fouled and get ourselves to the free throw line, we’ve been shooting it so well as a team from the free throw line lately, so we have to get there and hope it carries over,” Long said. “At the same time we’re going to have to keep them off the boards.”
