The city of Washington’s budget for next year so far includes funding for a shed to store foam used in firefighting. The foam is for fighting certain types of fires when water is not appropriate. It’s for what amounts to large grease fires. During a budget discussion this week, Washington City Administrator Brent Hinson explained to the city council that it would be especially important if a fire were to start at the Iowa Renewable Energy biodiesel plant. The cost of the shed could be shared between the city, the fireman’s association, and Iowa Renewable Energy.
