A Washington County man convicted of murder has been sentenced. According to Washington County Attorney, Larry Brock, 72 year old Thomas Lee Hansen of Riverside, who was convicted of second degree murder last November, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison. Brock adds he’ll have to serve 70% of that term, or 35 years, before he’s eligible for parole. He’s also been ordered to pay $150,000 in restitution to the victim, Sharon Gerot’s estate.

Hansen has been sent to the Iowa Medical Classification Center in Oakdale for a medical evaluation, which will take anywhere from 1 to 3 months. The results of the evaluation will help decide where Hansen will serve out his sentence. Hansen was sentenced last Friday.
