The IMS bid for three straight state tournament appearances fell short Saturday night at Benton Community as they fell to North Tama of Traer 55-46. Early on IMS struggled to stop the size of the Redhawks inside as North Tama leading scorer Mitch Boerm posted 15 first half points on his way to a game high 22 and center Nolan Hefty finished the game with 19. Despite the size disadvantage IMS trailed just 25-18 at the half. The Redhawks continued to pound away inside in the third quarter outscoring IMS 17-6 and capping the period with a three pointer from Jacob Wrage to lead by 18. IMS put together 13-1 run to start the fourth quarter and get back in it with 3 pointers from Peyton Thompson, Dallas Nye and Justin Boller. After the game Head Coach Dwight Gingerich talked about his teams work to get back in the game.
“We were running some set plays every time we were going down the floor we had a series that we were going through, we got a couple of things off of our press, which we switched to a full court zone pressure which wasn’t effective earlier but now it was,” Gingerich said. “At times different things work at different times we got some things off of that, we just got a couple of nice little rallies there.”
In the end it wasn’t enough as North Tama got back to their work inside and hit free throws down the stretch to seal it. IMS was led by 13 points from Dallas Nye, Peyton Thompson had 12. With the loss IMS ends their season at 22-3.
