Same place, same result. The #11 IMS boys continued their assault from beyond the arc this postseason knocking down nine three point goals on their way to a 72-55 over BGM in second round district action Tuesday night. IMS built a 24-13 lead in the first quarter on hot shooting and wall to wall action as both teams got up and down the floor. After the game Head Coach Dwight Gingerich spoke about his team’s offensive execution and their match up with the Bears.
“I feel like we were on the same page with what we are trying to do more and more all of the time, we have some things we’re looking to do and the guys are executing it very well, it’s always difficult to gauge a team that you haven’t seen on the floor, I’ve seen them play, but haven’t been on the floor with them they are very quick and Nathan Beck is very quick, they shot very well, but fortunately we have had some steals and offensive rebounds to get the offensive edge,” Dwight Gingerich said.
IMS put 22 more on the board in the second quarter leading 46-29 at the half. Iowa Mennonite would see the lead balloon to 26 in the third quarter before a BGM run but the Bears would never get it under 15. IMS was led by Peyton Thompson’s 26 points on five three’s giving him a dozen three point goals over the first two rounds of the playoffs. Dallas Nye and Cameron Gingerich each chipped in 13. After the game Gingerich spoke about the teams offensive mindset this postseason and getting ready for Thursday night.
“We’re just trying to pass the ball around and hit the open guy, in practice we work on the one extra pass, so we just try to work the ball around and find the open guy, because the shot is easier when it’s open,” Cameron Gingerich said. “We just need to keep doing what we are doing share the ball and trust each other and push the ball and run on a team and hopefully they get a little bit tired and just play our game.”
With the win IMS Is now 21-2 on the season and will next play for the district 7 championship Thursday night at Mid-Prairie High School against Lynnville-Sully, co-champions with area school Sigourney of the South Iowa Cedar League. Barring weather you can hear that game Thursday night on AM and FM KCII with the Mercy Services of Kalona pre game show at 6:30 and tip-off at 7PM live from Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.
