An Iowa State Senator whose district covers part of Washington County says he is supportive of a bill that tries to encourage buying Iowa products.  Democratic State Senator Rich Taylor says that Senate File 15 adds to existing laws that have the state of Iowa purchasing from Iowans. When the many purchases are made that involve companies bidding on a sale, then usually the lowest bid is chosen. But this bill would say that if an Iowa business were within 5 percent of that lowest bid, then the Iowa business would be preferred. It only applies to purchases of less that 500-thousand dollars.
In his latest email newsletter, Taylor connects the bill to his goals of strengthening jobs and the middle class. The bill currently is being reviewed by a sub-committee of economic growth, which Taylor is a part of.
