State wrestling kicks off today, and the Washington and Mid-Prairie wrestlers will have a little weight before they kick things off at 7 P.M. tonight.
The wrestlers from those two schools are:
Washingon
113lbs Fletcher Green
120 Tristan Pohren
Mid-Prairie
182lbs Phirom Peterschmidt
195 Nearoth Peterschmidt
Mid-Prairie head coach Justin Garvey said his kids don’t know a lot about who they are wrestling, but if they fall back on what they know then they should be okay.
“Every time you go to the state tournament, a lot of times you don’t know a whole lot about your opponent, and this is kind of the case we don’t know a whole lot, but we’re just going to fall back on everything we’ve done this year,” Garvey said. “I think we’ve got a really good draw at where we’re sitting, and Phirom just has to show up and wrestle, and if he shows up and wrestles the way he has been all season long we’ll be moving on.”
Starting at 9:00 A.M. will be the 1A schools from around the area, and Southeast Iowa has three wresters involved in those matches including:
Highland
126lbs Travis Cole
Lone Tree
138lbs Alex Yedlik
WACO
160lbs Cey Saeugling
KCII will update results as we get them.
