While adults in the county are busy with the Live Healthy Iowa 10 Week Wellness Challenge, the county’s students are as well. The wellness challenge has a special program geared toward kids, where, similar to the adult version, they record things like physical activity. One difference being they track other things in two week intervals. For instance this week they’re recording their vegetable consumption, while next week they’ll track how much time they spend in front of television and computer screens.

Kaylee Shirkey, a student at Wellman Elementary School, says the school is encouraging kids to stay active by starting things like “Move it Monday.” She shares that when a song comes on during the morning announcements, that’s their cue to start dancing.

All three school districts in the county, Washington, Mid-Prairie and Highland, are taking part in the program.
