The Department of Natural Resources has released its most recent water summary data for the state of Iowa. Washington and surrounding counties are still in moderate drought, yet there is some good news in that precipitation in January was above average in Washington and all our surrounding counties except for Keokuk. Precipitation in Keokuk County was less than average during the month. Katie Greiner with Kat’s Grain in Washington says that local farmers are being cautious, hoping for more precipitation this spring, and timely precipitation during the growing season. Statewide, precipitation for January was slightly above average.
