A week of special events is scheduled at Kalona Elementary this week. According to Title 1 Reading Teacher Jill Poock, Read Across America is celebrated nationwide to recognize Dr Seuss’s birthday and to get kids excited about reading.

Among the week’s activities is the Community Reader Day planned for tomorrow. Poock says people who work and live in Kalona, including some members of the school board, come into classrooms to read to students.

In addition, a Staff Reading Relay is planned for Wednesday, where teachers take turns reading to the different grades at the elementary, from pre-K to 5th grade.
