Residents of Washington have addressed members of the Washington City Council stating that they wish to have chickens in the city. At Wednesday’s meeting, the council discussed the topic and City Administrator Brent Hinson explained that there is an option that would not require establishing an entirely new resolution. Hinson states that if the board is adept to the notion, he recommends that the council allow the board of adjustment the authority to issue permits for the birds with certain conditions for each case. He noted that this will free up council time, notifies nearby homeowners and has public notice.

The council decided to place the item on the next agenda for action.
