Residents of Fairfield were advised to stay away from the area where their wastewater plant discharges into Crow Creek, after an incident Sunday. Environmental Specialist with the DNR, Terry Jones, says the heavy rains, snow melt, and a glitch with the wastewater plants control system led to the bypass of 459,000 gallons of untreated water.

He says Fairfield reported the situation in the proper time period, and doesn’t expect them to be penalized.

He shares the diluted rainwater that was bypassed, which contained traces of human waste, won’t have an affect on wildlife.
