There has been flooding in the area over the past week due to recent rainfall and melting snow. As of noon Thursday, the National Weather Service had issued flood warnings for the following areas: minor flooding along the Cedar River near Conesville until tomorrow, minor flooding along the Iowa River at Columbus Junction until tomorrow and minor flooding along the Iowa River at Wapello until Monday. Motorists are reminded that should they see water running across a road, they should turn around and take another route.

Since 2007, eight of the 14 Presidential Disaster Declarations in Iowa were for flooding. However, only approximately 18 percent of more than 53,000 homes, businesses and other structures in Iowa’s high-risk flood plain areas are covered by flood insurance.
