Today begins Iowa’s Severe Weather Awareness Week, which is meant to improve awareness of and response to severe weather hazards. According to Walt Jackson, Henry County Emergency Management Coordinator, when severe weather enters the area, he alerts his weather spotters, who then go out and monitor the sky. He adds he keeps the public informed of changes through local radio stations and if conditions warrant, they sound the tornado sirens.
