Keota will need to make changes to their wastewater plant, in order to receive their wastewater discharge permit. According to Mayor Tony Cansler, to meet the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Agencies limits on certain pollutants, they’ll have to add on to their current lagoon system, which could cost upwards of 1 million dollars. He says that would lead to rate increase in the city. He notes this issue will be discussed further in the coming months.
