The Lone Tree Lions Basketball team starts their run for a state title today.
The Lions have lost just one game all season to Danville, and today they play defending state champions Boyden-Hull in first round action.
Lone Tree is shooting 45 percent from the field, 38.7 percent from behind the arc and they are shooting a second best in the state 72.2 percent from the free throw line as well as averaging a third best in the state 72.5 points per game.
Bryan Forbes is the leading scorer for Lone Tree with 617 points while Gabe Lorack and Andy Dodson are behind him with 250 and 240 points.
Boyden- Hull is 22-3 and is shooting 48 percent from the floor, and is scoring 61.6 points per game.
Boyden-Hull has three players in Riley Francis, Brandt Van Roekel and J.C. Koerselman who have over three hundred points and Colin Bolkema is close behind with 297.
Lone Tree head coach Tom Squires said there are really two things that will separate these teams.
“I rally think we can’t turn the ball over, we haven’t had a big problem with that this year, but we really have to take care of the basketball because we are looking at a basketball team that is very efficient on the offensive end, we can’t give them a lot of chances by turning the ball over,” Squires said. “We have to rebound well, we have to box out and rebound well and only give them one shot, and if we can do those things I think we will be right in the basketball game.”
