A new hire will help Kalona form a group made up of all of the counties and communities in the English River Watershed. The city is looking to set up the English River Watershed Authority that would use grant funds to mitigate the affects of flooding through things like buffer strips and education. The watershed encompasses 6 counties and almost 15 communities.

The new assistant, Jody Bailey, will go to city council and board of supervisors meetings in those communities to have them formally announce their participation in the group.

Bailey has a master’s degree in urban planning at the University of Iowa. Kalona Mayor Ken Harrington says she fit right in line with what the city needs.
