A meat processing plant is opening outside of Sigourney. According to the Keokuk County Board of Supervisors Chair, Michael Berg, the new business, Responsible Transportation, will process horse meat into animal feed. The former West Liberty Foods building is now being renovated to fit their needs. The facility is scheduled to open in May. He says they’ll start off with a staff of fifteen, but notes eventually they could have up to 70 employees.
